The three men had some late nights in 2011.
They had just dissolved a partnership between their company, Ignus Technologies, and another information technology firm. IT was changing rapidly, and the old reactive IT service model wasn’t enough anymore; it was time to retool.
So what kind of IT company would really make a difference for small and mid-sized companies in the region? What would a new model of service delivery, driven by return on investment and business growth, look like? How could IT accelerate clients’ business growth?
Those were the questions Ole Gjerde, Wes Henry, and Zac Paulson mulled over into the small hours.
Ole and Wes had started Ignus in 1999 as a computer support and website hosting company. They built the business from the ground up, and in 2004 brought Zac Paulson in to help with sales. By 2010, Ignus was a $1 million company. They joined forces with the other IT company to accelerate the growth, but as these things sometimes go, the merger didn’t work out.
As they discussed where to go from there, they kept coming back to disappointment in what IT was doing and not doing for small to mid-sized companies. They realized the only companies that ever had good IT were companies that had around 200 or more people. There wasn’t a good substitute to having an internal IT team, and a strong department really required four or five people. That was at least three or four more than most businesses could afford. And a company with just one IT person… well, no one ever knows everything. Businesses with 10-50 people were being left behind.
Ole, Wes, and Zac brought in their software development partner, Mike Adams, and the four men set out to build a user-based model for small to mid-sized companies that would deliver the equivalent of an internal IT team, with all its experience, expertise, and responsiveness but without the overhead.
They did it. Today our clients enjoy right-away service rather than being scheduled by their IT provider for a service call in two or three days. Instead of getting a new IT person every time they call, our clients speak to one of a handful of professionals on a dedicated team assigned to their accounts.
There are still some late nights, but now we spend them solving problems and developing strategies for our clients.
That’s True|IT. And that’s Technology That Works
